What would having straighter teeth mean to you? A dream smile? Confidence in your oral health? Perhaps an entirely new level of self-assurance when you enter any room? Regardless of your motivation for aligning your teeth, we can assure you, based on our experience, that you deserve it!
Here are the top 6 things to know before embarking on Invisalign treatment.
When we talk about wear time, we mean how long you’ll need to wear your Invisalign clear aligners each day. Generally, you’ll wear them for 22 hours a day.
Keep in mind that you can remove the clear aligners whenever necessary, unlike fixed wires. Here are a few important points to consider:
During your initial consultation at our clinic, we'll use the iTero™ scanner to create a 3D image of your mouth and teeth.
At the scan, we will show you an example of what your potential smile could look like at the end of your treatment journey, complete with in-face visualisations. It’s an exciting way to get a sneak peek of what’s ahead!
In terms of real-life progress, you’ll notice a significant difference in your teeth within just a few months. Plus, receiving a fresh set of clear aligners every few weeks will reassure you that your smile is gradually improving.
The overall duration of your Invisalign treatment depends on the complexity of your case. Generally, you can achieve your desired results within 12 to 18 months, while mild cases can be treated in as little as 6 months.
Aim to brush twice a day and floss at least once daily.
Ideally, brush and floss after meals, or at least rinse your mouth with water. When it’s time to eat, simply take out your Invisalign clear aligners, enjoy your meal, and then brush and floss afterwards.
Even if you’re at work or out and about during mealtime, no worries, just place your Invisalign clear aligners in their case and continue with your day.
Sugary drinks can trap sugars and acids under your aligners, increasing the risk of tooth decay. After having a drink, it’s best to brush your teeth or rinse your mouth with water before putting your clear aligners back in.
However, if you’re drinking water, feel free to keep your aligners in without worry.
When you’re eating, it’s best to remove your aligners and place them in their case.
This is especially important for sugary snacks and sweets, which contain sugar and acid that can lead to tooth decay. Since Invisalign aligners fit closely against your teeth, sweets and confectionery remain in direct contact with your teeth for longer, increasing the risk of damage.
So, when it’s mealtime, simply take out your Invisalign clear aligners, enjoy your food, and afterwards, brush your teeth (or rinse your mouth with water) before putting the aligners back in.
After completing your Invisalign treatment, wearing a retainer is essential to maintain your teeth’s new position.
